Feeding the Birds
#441
I put a feeder on the side of the house, just because. The neighbor has an old pine tree that really needs to come down. Thankfully, it's leaning his way. However, I didn't realize what a safe haven it is for the birds. They fly in and grab some food and fly back into the tree. In 10 minutes this afternoon I saw three chickadees, a titmouse, male and female goldfinch, house finch, white breasted nut hatch and a sparrow, along with three mourning doves, and a squirrel. I don't usually see that much activity in the back yard, even though the feeders are near the tall evergreens which also provide shelter for the birds.
I tried to get a few shots, but could not get a decent one through the window, and the birds were much faster than I am....

I call these guys the pretty pigeons. I hung around on the side of the house near the feeder. This guy was hanging around too.
Still can't grab a decent shot of the other visitors. I like shots when they are in a more natural environment vs the feeders, but they are just too darn fast for me, and I don't have all day to sit/stand around waiting. It's not like I'm retired like some of you.

Finally put out a hummingbird feeder......
Looks like we have one dominant hummingbird, that keeps pushing other hummingbirds away from the feeder.
Guess he/she has laid claim to our feeder.
One of these days I'll get a pic or two!

Rick and I were on the deck yesterday doing nothing much, along with a little bird watching. The hummingbirds must have been exhausted. We have three that were constantly chasing each other off from the feeders and the flowers. Late in the day we did see a couple of them having enough time to grab a snack, but with all that dive bombing going on, not sure any of them had enough to eat yesterday! I know when they start doing this, it means they will be leaving soon.
