Patty, that first bird with the pointy tail looks like a Carolina Wren...not sure if you get those? I don't think it's a nuthatch unless I missed something in the other pics?

Yes! It is a wren. A House Wren, I believe. Good catch, Lainey.

The eyebrow and the way their tail sticks up...the Carolina Wren has more of a yellow belly I believe. The nuthatch is a cool bird. Google them on the Cornell site. I always know when one is at my feeder as they eat kind of upside down.

I added a feeder to the side yard. I've only seen a bird or two at it, but the feed/seeds are disappearing fast. The feeder is right near a sad old, tall pine tree (neighbor's yard) and my privacy shrubs. I think the birds are swooping in from the tree or shrubs, and taking their food "to go."

A neighbor's cat has been hanging around the back yard way too much for my liking....I saw gray feathers the other day. Not sure if the cat got a bird or if a hawk did.

When I find a pile of feathers outside it's due to a bird eating a bird.

Desert birds - interesting. I'll stick with green grass and green trees.
I'll stick with dry air and no mosquitos.
Believe it or not, that is what our summer has been like. It has only rained a couple times in the whole month of June.

Is that unusual for you?

OMG Yes. Normally I can not work on the MG with garage door open because I'd be eaten alive. This year no problem. So far this year I've only seen maybe four mosquitos and that was at our driveway campfire over the 4th.

I agree, even though they are not generally known for being so far west - they do get around. Or maybe its a House Wren with makeup pretending to be a Carolina Wren.

We have seen our first hummingbird of the season. It's a big thing in this part of MI and no I didn't get to see which type. I need to get a lot closer to see that or have the binoculars.

Love the hummers. I have two feeders one outside my kitchen window. They visit frequently. The ruby throat has a wonderful/colorful ruby throat. Pics taken through window and cropped.
