We don't have many cardinals, but they've been scarce lately.

Patty, that's a good idea and I like what you did with it. It reminds me of a piece of equipment we used to have where I worked. It was referred to as an "ice eater." Basically it kept the water circulating so it would not freeze and damage the dock.

Anytime you want to take and share a cardinal photo out your window I will appreciate it as they don't live here and I've only seen a couple in Florida. I did have a northern flicker today. I heard an unusual sound so I went to see what bird made it. I just Goggled them and discovered that they are woodpeckers. I didn't know that! They must be the ones putting holes in the supports to my deck down at the basement entrance by the catio.

^^ We have Northern Flickers in my part of the country. They visit the suet feeder often over the summer.

I'll see if it's in the cards.

These are not great photos; just a couple quickies with the iPhone. In the second there are two male and two female cardinals.

Thank you, Dave. I take it the finches aren't afraid of the cardinals?

The larger birds I get are scrub jays, blue jays, doves and magpies. The finches only stick around with the doves. Right now I have lots of dark eyed juncos. Theses aren't great photos but you get the idea.

Patty we have such a big selection of birds with three large feeders and two small ones it is constant movement on all of them. The flickers and blue jays are the big ones that don't want to share.

Many of my birds seems to be MIA! The seed in the feeder does not seem to be replenished often. I'm rarely seeing woodpeckers, or Jucos, and/or some of the groundfeeders. The Blue Jays arrive in the AM for their shell peanuts. The chickadees and tit mice are around, but not in great numbers. I see sparrows in the AM, but not in large numbers.

Not sure what is happening...I especially miss seeing the woodpeckers!

I filled my two feeders today and Rick went outside and replaced them. Gave the birds some fresh water. Suet is still largely untouched. Very few of my usual suspects showing up. Still weird.

A fair amount of tit mice and chickadees and sparrows, but not large numbers. Blue jays show up for daily peanuts. No woodpeckers....
