Our Hummers left last week... feeder still out in case one heading south stops by.

Going to miss them.... had more Hummers at the new house, than we had seen at the old house.

We still have a hummingbird but she better get her butt in gear. It will be in the 50s in a couple days.

This week, other than the ever-present sparrows, I've seen swallows, quails, two types of duck, geese, doves, a heron, plovers, karearea (native falcon), hawks, pheasants, tui, and magpies.

The falcons and hawks are particularly welcome, as rabbits are starting to show up in annoyingly large numbers (i.e. more than zero).

Looks like our bird population is a little diminished. I filled feeders before we left for a week and there was still some food in the feeders and suet in the cages. I am seeing the blue jays and sparrows ( not in as huge a number) and some of the usual suspects. The woodpecker sightings are not frequent.
While walking the trails at the Cape May NJ lighthouse, I saw many of these cute little birds. Yellow rumped warbler, I believe. They can look so different, male-female, breeding and non breeding.

Dave, I photographed one of the Towhees today. I rarely spot them and they don't visit my yard. Also spotted a hairy woodpecker, usually I only see the Downy.

Now that snow has come twice, the birds are back and hungry. I bought a
 water wiggler water wiggler
to see if it would help get them to use the heated water bowl. They were using it before the snow. I jazzed it up with acrylic paint markers and finally put it out today. I kept buying the wrong batteries. Finally managed to get "D"s yesterday.

It is snowing today and that brought the cardinals back . . a dozen or more . . I expect that will double as winter goes on.
