Feeding the Birds
#2371
Out and about today. Spotted this guy. Eastern Kingbird. I thought it was something different it was small and the bill looked longer than I thought it should. It was cute though.

I love goldfinches. When we lived in Natick we had a thistle growing right outside our bedroom window.
Goldfinches go nuts for thistle seed. We could sit and watch them feasting from 3 or 4 feet away.
I'm sure somewhere packed away in a box we have photos of them. Funny how quickly 40 years slips by.

We have a fair number of American Goldfinch in our yard. I have two thistle bags out for them.

We have them all the time in a feeder just inches away from a kitchen window.

I'm not feeding these wild turkeys but they are visiting. Maybe they like the freshly cut weeds.

I'm not putting out a ton of seed, the sparrows are just over running the feeders again. I'm putting out plenty of thistle, the gold finches should be having babies soon. They are late breeders. The hummingbirds are feeding frantically. They will be packing their bags soon. Meanwhile, I'm putting out the "juice" for them every couple of days.
I didn't have to wait long to get photo ops today. No bird in flight shots though, they were moving too fast when at the feeder. At other times, they would sit near the feeder, guarding their turf.

He who has the biggest bird feeder wins! At least the wife must think so. This is what she just bought as a replacement for one that's out lived its days. I put a bill there to give you an idea how big it is. It has suet feeders at both ends.
It has a metal rack at the base so birds can not do a 'beak sweep".
