While I was up at Kennedy Meadows for a few days, the nestlings hatched. Trabuco Canyon, CA.

Lainey The one I saw was all blue. I grabbed the camera but it was faster than I am. It looked like this.
I did get a blurry shot of it's butt just as it left. Autofocus took the leaf in front. Next time I'll know better. It's an Indigo Bunting.

Those are very pretty. Just checked and they breed in our area. I've not seen one here in MA.

It was about 3.5 feet, give or take. I did a U-turn to get the photo. I grew up with them camping at Lake Havasu on the Arizona side and still see them so as long as they aren't coiled I'm fine with them.

It occured to me that road runners catch rattlesnakes so the snake could have been the prey but in truth they weren't in the immediate vicintiy of each other. I road a bit after the road runner and before I saw the rattlesnake.

Tough to get a good shot of the Red Head that showed up today. Also, found a older one in the same file.
