This is pretty amazing. A pest control guy was called to a house to check out a wall. Turns out woodpeckers had been storing acorns in holes up above and they dropped down behind the wall. When he opened up the wall, thousands of acorns came out. About 700 pounds worth. He said they probably accumulated over a period of two to five years.

Here's one of the downsides to feeding the birds. For 2 days we have had a huge flock of hungry robins partying in the fig tree. Our whole yard, house as well as the neighbors has been polka dotted. Pressure washer time. Today the cedar wax wings showed up. Fun tree
I took the afternoon off of work today. There was a county park naturalist giving a presentation on Eagles in the county. They had it outdoors at our main county park, in a location where you can see a nest across the lake. I did a rough measurement with Google Maps and the viewpoint and the nest are about 1400 feet apart. We found out there are up to about 10 nesting pairs in the county at this point, and some are pretty close. I may have to start going to work a little earlier to get a morning glimpse if they're out. The naturalist said that on Saturday she was there and there were 26 identified eagles! If you're an Instagram user, here's the handle (@mercercoparks).
I went with my 500mm lens. It's a 200-500, but it never moved off of 500. At 1400 ft, If I zoom into the image to about 5% of the original, I don't get enough details. 1400 ft is a long way away! When I got there, about 1PM, there was a single Eagle in the nest. Looked like an adult, but later determined it was a juvenile, probably 3 or 4 based on coloring. Then 2 adults came by, and later a large Red-Tailed Hawk came pretty close to us.
