Rick spotted an oriole in our yard the other day. We are leaving on vacation, but will put out grape jelly when we return. Hope it attracts them.

Dave could that be an oriole nest? It looks like the size of a baseball?

Is that what their nest is like? It was the size of a baseball. We have several Orioles . . . in fact, I got to enjoy them and the non-stop song birds for two full hours in the warm sunshine this afternoon with enjoying a nice drink. It frankly was wonderful to get out of the house and we have a whole week of great weather lined up.... well, the 50 mph winds for tomorrow maybe more than we need.

Sitting outside today I kept hearing a bird call that was very unusual. It sounds like it was really close, like within 10 feet but I could never see the bird. Finally Donna came home, heard the same call, but she couldn't see it either. Very frustraiting. It may have been a pileated woodpecker but how do you not see them?

Hummingbird nests are long and narrow, at least out here. That is not one of them, IMHO.

Yeah, wife says it is too big for a hummingbird. Maybe its a bird from Asia? Why, the way it is sewed together makes me think it wasn't done by someone locally.

Birdlady Lainey you are correct. We looked up oriole nests last night and that is spot on!
That's really a surprise for us. We haven been getting orioles every spring but never had any idea they were nesting in our yard or area.

I was roaming around at one time and saw one in a tree. I had no idea what it was. Took a pic and a fellow bird lover filled me in.
