Feeding the Birds

Usual suspects in our yard. The goldfinch (males) are sporting nice yellow colors and are chowing down on thistle and sunflower seeds. House finch, woodpeckers, etc. showing up too.
Took a walk in the woods today. A birding friends keeps me posted on various trails and sightings.
I wanted to check out one trail. It leads to the ocean and a nice marshy area. I'll expect to have some decent sightings there.
On the way out I photographed a yellow bellied sap sucker. Cool bird. You could see a line of bore holes in the tree. He's been busy.

Davd/dlq are you still feeding the birds? Does your area have a concern with the avian flue and requesting folks take down their feeders? It's time to make some hummingbird "juice." There have been sightings of them in our area.

As of tomorrow the only feeders I will have out will be the Blue Bird feeder, Finch feeder, Oriole feeder and a Hummingbird feeder.

Because of HOA or bird flu?

Yes, no changes here. Saw the first rose breasted grosbeak yesterday. The song birds wearing their new spring coats is always wonderful to see.

My atomic clock I had hanging in the kitchen seems to have bitten the dust. It will not set to the correct time for whatever reason. So I decided to replace it, but with a Feldstein 20th Anniversary Edition bird clock - one singing bird per hour. Vito loves it. The birds are American Robin, American Goldfinch, Pileated Woodpecker, Black-capped Chickadee, Blue Jay, Common Loon, Baltimore Oriole, Purple Martin, Eastern Screech Owl, Northern Cardinal, White-breasted Nuthatch, and Bald Eagle.

I have one of those, MsP. My mother gave it to me some years back. I turned off the sounds because I found them distracting, but still love the clock. I was deeply moved by the fact that she recognized my love of birds.
Lainey, if you're concerned about avian influenza and bird feeding, you should read this article:
