I find the females easier to photograph than the males. The males, dark eyes, the black feathers around the eyes makes it tough..........for me anyway.

The monarch butterflies have come to town! Got some pics in the yard today.

Also saw a glossy ibis at an Audubon site, but no pic that is shareworthy. Spotted a couple snowy egrets in another area and five osprey flying around above. Today was for the birds!

We had taken down our feeders for a while. There was a disease among birds in the mid-Atlantic area and there was concern it would end up here as well. The other day it was announced that the feeders could go back up/out. They didn't determine the exact issue with the birds, but it seems to have passed.

Feeders went up on Thursday and it was good to see the birds in the yard again!

We never see anything like that. You folks in the west seem to really get them. Perhaps because of fewer flowers??

In all the years I've been feeding hummingbirds, I've only seen two birds on the same feeder once. I was working on getting a few shots this evening. Hoped for a shot without the feeder in the frame, but no luck. They won't be with us much longer. I'll likely take down the feeders before our little road trip in two weeks. Don't want to end up with dirty feeders.

Chickadees are back at feeders and birth bath.

Those are beautiful photos of the birds, Lainey!

I especially like the first one and the third one.

I know very little about photography, but I have learned some by reading here in Vintage.

Lainey, in your last photo of the chickadee, is that a bokeh effect? I really like it.

It is Sue. My zoom lens gives a nice bokeh effect.
Bokeh is defined as “the effect of a soft out-of-focus background that you get when shooting a subject, using a fast lens, at the widest aperture, such as f/2.8 or wider.” Simply put, bokeh is the pleasing or aesthetic quality of out-of-focus blur in a photograph.

Spring has finally arrived here, and the native birds are starting o make their way into the garden looking for nectar. Here's a terrible shot of a couple of Tui, I was hoping to catch some of their deep blue/green coloring but I suck my phone sucks at taking photos.

Tui are probably my favorite native bird, they develop their song as they grow older, and no two have the same call. They essentially have two voice boxes, and can imitate sounds and speech, while parts of their song can even be ultrasonic.

If I was a pro the photo would look more like this:
