I've still yet to see one locally except for the one that flew over my house once.
The winds have been fierce I had thistle bags out. I'm sure most of the thistle was blow out of the bag like a salt shaker. One bag ended up towards the top of our tall shrubs.
I put out two fresh bags this evening.

I have seen an eagle once. At the end of my driveway of all places. They are big birds.

We have no eagles in New Zealand, possibly thankfully - Haast's Eagle, which became extinct around 1400AD, weighed 33lb, and was up to 4ft 7in long with a wingspan over 9ft. Its prey included Moa (another extinct native bird), which stood up to 12ft tall and sometimes weighed over 500lb. It would have been an incredible sight to see for the early Maori.
We have so many varieties of birds around the property - NZ falcons, swamp harriers, magpies, pukeko, plovers, tui, quail, ducks, Canada geese, doves, pigeons, herons and so on. My favorite, however, are fantails. These little chaps will keep you company as you work in the garden, zig-zagging around only a few feet away, rarely sitting still, and letting our a little "eep!" as they go. I've wasted far too much time just watching them dart about the place when I really should be doing something productive.

This is our Blue Bird that keeps attacking our sliding glass door.

Why do you think he's going for the door? A reflection? Knock, knock jokes? Better eats inside? We've never had any real close to the house like that.

I'm sure it is a refection of himself. It is breeding season and he is just trying to chase that "other" male away.

There are several options to help prevent birds from hitting windows. https://www.allaboutbirds.org/news/w...lp-prevent-it/

Large and in charge at the feeders today. The pecking order is observed when this guy/gal flies in. Through the window pic.
