Feeding the Birds
#2011
Just saw a blue jay fly into a bush down below. Don't see a lot of them here, so that is nice. Those bushes would be great for nesting. Very thick and protected.

More info on the issue with pine siskins and Salmonella. I don't have them in my area. I saw them in the fall for the first time ever and then they were gone!

I had to bring in the feeders today. One of them was in the backyard and with the mowing starting today it had to go (HOA rules). The other is on the edge of the woods and there has been nothing but Grackles, Doves, Raccoons and Deer feeding there. I left the two suets, the peanuts and the hummingbird feeders (no action there yet).

How about thistle bags? Are those allowed? I'm going to put my hummingbird feeders out today.
We had a fair amount of rain so I just took down a couple of the seed feeders and replaced with clean feeders and seed. I dumped the remaining seed in the woods across the street. However, I had sprinkled some cayenne pepper in the seed to keep chipmunks away. I haven't seen many of them....but dumping seed and rinsing feeders when it's windy and the feeders had cayenne pepper in them...........bad idea. Pass the tissues.

I had a thistle feeder and the birds completely ignored it. I cleaned it and replaced the seed with new and nothing. Maybe I will try a bag.

Thistle bag worked better than feeder for me. I don't fill it as I change it often

First hummingbird sighting this evening. Always happy when they return. I put the feeders out 2-3 days ago.
This is a Palm Warbler spotted at my favorite nature trail. I thought it was a Pine Warbler, but a birding friend pointed out the bit of reddish on the top of the head.
