A new family of chipmunks has moved in. I wondered why my bird feeders were emptying so quickly. I tossed some seed in a ziplock bag with some cayenne pepper. Haven't seen the little critters hanging around/on the feeder much this afternoon. We'll see what happens next. I also read that they don't like the smell of baby power and cayenne pepper mixed together. I can tell you I don't either. I will sprinkle some of that around where I see them make their entrance to my yard. Cheap enough to try.

They'd best move on, they won't like what's next.

On the good news side, the red bellied woodpecker is making frequent appearances on the suet. They had not spent much time here in the past.

Next up, trying to entice some butterflies into the yard with some nectar.

We've tried several of the usual butterfly tricks...sunning pad, flowers they supposedly like. Not much in the way of results so far. Let us know if you have better luck and what you did.

Some of what Rick grows does attract the butterflies. We see the swallowtail butterflies the Monarchs and a couple others at different times.

I bought a little feeder type thing like in the picture below. Set it on a stake. It's has some kind of of removable plastic sponge thing in it. I guess the liquid sits in it for the butterflies to "sip"? Just add some sugar water,1 part sugar 4 parts water put in the sun and wait. Clean often.

Well, this is not feeding, but it is bird related. Apparently, geese have a daycare!!

That's cool. My feeders have been quiet with the exception of the suet. The woodpeckers are frequenting it and Dad is feeding the baby. The chipmunk has been at the feeders, so seed has now been laced with some cayenne pepper. I know it's OK for the birds. I am seeing the cardinals eat from the screen beneath the feeders as are the sparrows eating from some seed on the ground, but the chickadees, titmice and gold finch must be nesting as they are only visiting now and again.

It is interesting the while sitting on eggs the sitting geese will chase away other geese but as soon as the chicks are hatched you will see multiple geese protecting the brood.
