^ I just had two of those in my yard! I think they were here for the fountain and not the bird seed because as I watched from the house they went from a little tree and then towards the fountain but I couldn't see where they landed. I was about to buy some more no mess bird seed yesterday but the store was closed. Now I'm thinking I don't want to buy that same old seed because I keep getting all these black birds and I don't get the finches that I want so I found some old finch food I had and put it out and I'll see how it works today.

I've only seen them a few times and have managed only a few photos. They are cool looking birds.

They are tough birds to photograph in my opinion. The black mask and dark eye, and he was in the shade. My shutter speed was relatively high, f stop 6.3 ISO 1250, but the photo still looks a bit too soft or grainy? Maybe some camera shake as I was pointing up? I like his pose in this one a bit better.

Lainey, doesn't your camera have the motion deblur or anti-shake? My 6+ year old camera does, and it wasn't very expensive.

The lens does, but since I was shooting up, and the lens is big, there certainly could have been some shakin' going on.

This isn't exactly a bird, but it flies. I haven't been able to get a clear focused shot; it is small and translucent and hard to get the camera to focus on. But it is beautiful, I think.
