Feeding the Birds
#1621
haven't seen too many blue jays lately, maybe because I had not been putting out peanuts as often. So I put them out, and the squirrel had a feast. I have seen three-four downy woodpeckers at once, one chasing the other away from the suet. As it happens, it's a male, and he's feeding a young one. So I added another suet to the buffet on the other side of the house.
This guy showed up today. I don't see them often in my yard. Happy to have him drop by.

Nice; that's some lens you have.

Through the window and cropped, but still not too bad as far as resolution. The lens is a favorite, since I've gotten into the birds/wildlife.

I took my feeders in. The birds were not eating hardly anything as the woods are full of food.

I had some of those photos too, Gary.
Scooter, I know some folks don't feed the birds in the summer. Sorry they bailed on you. We do have some woods across the street, but I guess my birds like the take out buffet. I'm glad they show up here during the summer, as I get more opportunities to see them with the longer day. I had four woodpeckers show up at once today. One of them, or another one already found the suet in the other area too. I'm seeing the chickadees, nuthatches, titmice, goldfinch, a chipping sparrow, house sparrow, song sparrow, the cardinals and the hummingbirds, oh and Dave's favorite, the mourning Doves.

During the week we were at the Spring Fling our bird population went from 100 per hour to 10 per hour. We're not entirely sure why, but I think they just missed us.
Some moved on, some where more interested in sex than food, some said there was plenty on natural food sources, some . . who knows
Gary, never heard of a Golden House Finch before . . . just wondering if that was something else, seeing the blue color.

10 birds per hour is a good number for me. Right now the woodpeckers are pretty constant visitors, feeding the young.

Rainy day fun. Put out some peanuts, see who/what shows up, grab the camera. Squirrel for the win!
