The goldfinch are still eating the damp thistle, but I still feel the need to replace....The birds will continue to eat damp seed, but if it starts to clump up at the bottom port, I do dump it out and replace with fresh. I don't totally fill the feeders for that reason.

Donna routinely totally cleans the feeders from top to bottom. It really makes a big difference on how much they get used.

Feeders are low. Will take them in tonight, clean them out and add fresh feed.

Good, the birds will thank you. Speaking of birds we have had light snow off and on today but for some reason we have been swamped all day with birds - - dozens and dozens at a time. Makes me wonder, what do they know? What's coming? At least a dozen squirrels at one time also; and they are out front too.

^I've had the same experience here.

Had a beautiful robin (I think) fly into one of our large windows over the front door. Unfortunately, it rebounded onto the front walk and sadly died. Usually, they are just stunned for a few minutes and then fly away. Not this time. It really must have been moving. I can understand why it mistook the window for the back yard, since there is a clear view through to the windows in the back of the house.

Two out of three done...one gets gunky at the bottom, the other ends up with food clumps. Both dumped, and washed and rinsed thoroughly with HOT HOT water. They have dried out, I've filled with seed and will put them back out in the AM. I'll check the other one over the weekend. The food seems to be moving about with no clumping.

Dave, the birds do seem to go crazy when the snow flies here too.

Gene, sorry about the robin.

Damn, went to put out one of the recently cleaned and filled feeders this AM and realized I managed to break it while cleaning it. There's a part missing which holds the spring loaded top. Oh well, Amazon to the rescue. I'll have a new one on Sunday. If Rick is looking for a little project, maybe he can find a way to repair the other one and I can keep it around for a spare.

That's a LOT of bird food! My feeders have been quiet. The Blue Jays are show up every day now. They have us trained.
