Feeding the Birds
#1351
Our hummingbird wars have settled down. They are no where near as frantic as they were just a week or so ago. They are still around, though not so sure if we have only three. Maybe one left to check out their new digs for the winter? It's only a matter of time until they are gone. I hate it when that happens. I'm still seeing MANY goldfinch, going through a ton of thistle. The sparrows seem to like the seed catching tray, but not a huge population. Still seeing the tit mouse, chickadee, nuthatches, woodpeckers and Dave's favorite the "fat pigeons." Oh, and I saw a Carolina Wren the other day. Haven't seen one of those for a while.
What's going on in your yard? Gene, did you put up the feeders again?

Sad note, found a blue jay under our grill today, dead....
And "gimpy" our squirrel with a bad leg hasn't been seen for 4 days, so guessing he is gone also.

The hummers aren't gone here in Colorado but I never see them on my feeder, just near it. These Magpies are all over the ground but not at my house. I've got birds but I'm not sure what they are but my sister was here and said they were gold finches. Oh, I've had the noisy blue Jays, whatever they're called here. They come in the morning to the feeder.

Our new hummingbird feeder has new residents in charge. Looks like a male and female ran off the little (fierce) female that was monopolizing the feeder. Guess it's better to feed two than one.

We saw magpies in western Canada a lot. They are considered nuisance birds there, I think. I kinda liked them.
