The starlings. They are annoying me. Even though I have the suet hung upside down with the plastic on top (as suggested by Mike, I think), they are still managing to devour the suet. We make noises to scare them off, but they keep coming back. I don't want to stop feeding the suet as it is popular with the woodpecker and the nuthatch. Any other suggestions? I guess I'm not supposed to be so picky about who shows up at the feeder, and suet IS cheap..........

For me, and my bird feeder, it’s the Grackles that have taken over. They’re voracious eaters whose broods are now airborne. The Bluejays who’s broods have begun flying have a running battle with them at my feeder. What would discourage my the visitation of least favorite bird…the Crackles, would also disrupt the B’Jays, so lots of peanuts are the food of the day along with my closed eyes. Oh, well.

Sparrows are my biggest problem right now.

You know, I said starlings, but it is the grackles here too. I still have few issues with the sparrows. Try the fishing line again, Dave? Just a few pieces here and there. These guys are wiping out the thistle. I welcome them.

Bad Birds is not our number one problem this week. Its "what's eating the flowers I just planted", even with separate fences Donna is going nuts. But, of course we have deer, rabbits, and whatever else is hungry. As for birds, today we had a couple crows out there - I sometimes forget just how big they can be. Tonight, we watched a hummingbird just outside the porch eating . . . it seemed to be bobbing up and down to the sounds coming from the bluetooth speaker with flashing lights that the grandkids got us so we could relax with oldies and brewskis.

The rabbits do like nice small green plants...we don't have deer but we do have an issue with slugs and even ants eating certain plants. If it's damp, it could be slugs. Any previous issue with those? We use "Sluggo"

Years ago we used trays of beer in the garden.

That works too, but the dead bodies in beer was gross. Sluggo works, they eat the pellets which aren't harmful to other animals and go off and die somewhere other than in your garden.

The garden lady says its mainly deer because the flowers are being pulled out by the roots. Of course some are eaten smoothly, i.e. rabbits. No slug issues here, other than me.
