The guide that came highly recommended to us, and which we really like is A Guide to Field Identification BIRDS of North America by GOLDEN Press. Ours is dated sometime after 1983.

Over the last few weeks I've used the Audubon's Guide to North American Birds at this link: https://www.audubon.org/bird-guide It has drawings and professional photos of each bird along with their characteristics, breeding, feeding, and their yearly residence characteristics .

The Audubon Society also has an interesting article regarding whether or not is it okay to feed birds...see here: https://www.audubon.org/news/when-it...not-feed-birds Some are in decline because of human intervention.

Seems our "short window" of Orioles is over. No action on the oranges in the past two days. Probably moved on due to the mid-90s heat we are getting.

My oranges are still out, but they are likely ready to be tossed. No takers.

Here's a question. If the birds only migrate through, I'm guessing they don't take the time to build nests? We have Oriole nests in our area, which would make me think they should be around much longer here, making babies. Time for some fresh oranges....

Looks like we have at least 2 hummingbirds around...

Wish they could be more civil and let each other at the feeder at the same time...

I mean, the feeder has like 6 feeding spots!

But it is neat to watch them run each other off!

We saw our first Red-breasted Grosbeak today. What a pretty bird.

I've never seen one here. We are going through a ton of thistle. The Goldfinch are loving it. Rick counted eight of them this AM. They also hang out on the seed feeders as well. I went home at lunch today and gave them fresh thistle in clean thistle bags.
