Default Fatty foods addictive?

So now we know: Scientists have finally confirmed what the rest of us have suspected for years: Bacon, cheesecake, and other delicious yet fattening foods may be addictive.

A new study in rats suggests that high-fat, high-calorie foods affect the brain in much the same way as cocaine and heroin.

It just tastes better than lettuce!

Fat and salt are what makes food taste good. Ask any restaurant.

Kathy and I have the "good food" debate continuously

Due to irritable syndrome from one end to the other , she can't eat anything that's fatty, spicy, salty or acidic = EVERYTHING GOOD Since I like all of those things, it makes for some interesting "menu" challenges

I have told her...only partly in jest: "If I could only eat what you eat, I would shoot myself"

If think about it for a minute, We are genetically programmed to seek out fats and salts.
50,000-100,000 years ago as our specie was evolving these were critical yet relatively rare elements of our survival and as such we those who developed a innate taste for them survived.
unfortunately that same survival instinct does not benefit us during times of plenty.

A little bit off topic, but aren't women also "programmed" to store fat, to get them through the demands of pregnancy and lactation?

I believe we are, and a recent article (Deb posted a link along the way) informs us that middle aged women need to exercise an hour a day to keep the pounds off. Does typing count as exercise?

I don't see that happening for me, Jim.

I certainly have my food addictions but fatty foods aren't one of them. I will never give up cheese but can live without bacon (although I do love bacon), and french fries. Once in a while I'll splurge for Cheetos, usually on my way to Kennedy Meadows. I've been on a strawberry kick since January. Lucky for me they grow them right here in Irvine, so I can get a lot for a decent price at Costco. I had two bowls of them last night. I've been satisfying my cheese love with a low fat version of Jarlsberg, with only 50 calories per slice.

What fatty foods do you like and have to have?

Fritos, Cheetos, cookies, french fries....all that is tasty, though I try to be moderate in consumption.
