I think it's a matter of the quality of the education. Maybe you should educate the kiddo on what a drive in a real manual transmission car is like
Also, because so many parents are working early morning to late evening, we compensate by congratulating the kids every time they show up for school or turn in homework, giving them a false sense of accomplishment - heaven forbid that we should provide them with a critical eye and realistic view of what's really going on - major guilt trip for us - thus, they don't have high expectations or goals, and to them less is adequate and acceptable.
