I remember that now that you mention it. Wasn't there also a slogan that was something along the lines of vote for Johnson/Goldwater (?) and the life you save may be your own? I remember that there was a lot of fear peddling during that campaign.

I'm glad it's over. I'm tired of all the lies and hypocricy. Being retired, neither party can help or hurt me much at this point.

Rick and I usually vote the same. One year we had discussed the various candidates. We both had decided to vote for candidate X. Well I got into the voting booth and just couldn't do it. Something didn't sit right, so I voted for candidate Y.

I didn't say anything. Later on my nephew called. He was excited as he had participated in a mock election at school. He told me who he voted for and asked me who I had voted for. I tried to tell him that was private, you don't have to tell. This of course was because Rick was in earshot. The kid persisted so I finally told him. Rick's reaction was

Here in MI the owner of Amway was running for Gov and spent, are you ready for this, $40 million of his OWN MONEY. And lost today. I keep thinking how wonderful he could have felt tonight had he put this money in to something constructive and meaningful rather than gambling on a political office.
