Hey don't be knocking Ford trucks. I put over 10k on my old truck this year while the Audi A6, which cost 10 times more, sat in the garage most of the time; I think I put 3k on it in the same time frame. I honestly have a new found respect for what a great general purpose vehicle a pickup truck is.

I think patty was commenting more on the emotional linkage of the vehicle with her ex than the vehicle itself.

hey silver,
do you have audio sync issues between the hdmi video and the AV audio chain?

Bolt, are you doing any video or audio processing in the chain? (audio sync issues)

With all of the audio processing capabilities in receivers and vid processing in receivers and TVs, you might find you need to do an audio delay.

I bought a PS-3 because it is all ready wirelessly connected to my network so it automatically downloads upgrades. I got the 80 Gb one for Christmas. I recently bought a Samsung LN46A650 1080p 120 Hz LCD television.

I do play Gran Turismo and Guitar Hero on the PS-3. I'm sure I'll get some other games as they become available. I'm just not into shoot-em up games.

The picture and sound quality from the combo is amazing. I do use an HDMI connection to the TV, but use an optical digital connection to my AV system.

Ironman is absofrigginglutely amazing on Blue Ray.

I also use the HDMI connection from my HD cable box to the TV. My wife's comment was that even real life did not look so real.
Yeah, all the other advice about systems is over my head. Look at Jerry and Ken's exchange about... well, I don't know wth they are talking about. I just know I don't want to resolve technical issues. I just want something that works. If and when I get a blue ray player, it will be a PS. It is made by Sony and Blue Ray was developed by Sony.

Bill, the issue of audio sync is a very common one with HDMI. That is the cable/spec that is used for true HD information transfer. (I know of no other "route" that wioll give you true 1080p HD. The issues look like "dubs disease" (for those that remember that SNL bit), and can be quite annoying, no matter the source.

The PS3 like my Sony BDP-550 outputs audio and video signals in sync, but when you take those signals and send them through a TV and then into a receiver there can be a delay. I know many people that have used the PS3 for Blu-Ray, but be aware it is a very good all around machine, but the dedicated players have a lot more capability and flexibility for the entire HiDef (video and audio) experience.

I would probably need to buy a new receiver and speaker system to get any of the added benefit from the dedicated player.

The trucks were fine for towing the boat or a lot of dirt bikes. Andy used to tell me to sell my '98 Odyssey and get an F150 Ford truck, cuz he thought they were cute. Jerry's right. It's the emotional link, Dave.

Sony BP-550 it will be ready for internet interactivity basically BPLIVE when your ready
^I just wanted to single you out, Dave. Thanks for your input too.

BTW, I asked my son his opinion and he said the best way was to get one that plays through your computer to your tv. My daughter has one that has some link to Netflix so you can download blu-rays to it and play them without having to get it in the mail.

I'll print this out and visit Best and maybe Sam's today. Costco has a limited selection and none of these that people have recommended.

I second (or third) the Sony BDP-S350 or 550.

I haven't bought a blu-ray player yet for a variety of reasons, but I've been keeping an eye on reviews and the Sonys are well recommended.
