EXTREMELY annoying, but I guess it's "par for the course" in a real estate transaction. In the end, we split the difference after 10 days of back-and-forth.

Jerry, you should move to Quebec;we have lovely COLD winters...

Well, I guess it's the principal of the thing, but $15K out of the total is not much to argue over. Good that you got it resolved.

Expecting to sign a Sales Agreement tomorrow afternoon for our house, with Closing no-later-than 6/1/2016. If we don't figure out "what's next" in the coming months, then we will be officially homeless.....moving to Quebec with Renee and Emil

LATER tomorrow afternoon, we have Closing scheduled on a HELOC...in case we need cash w/o tapping into savings with resultant capital gains tax

3 hours ago we signed an Agreement to sell our house of almost 31 years! It's a good deal with ZERO contingencies and I think that we are over the emotional part!

We have several options for our next home....from 0.2 to 30 miles from here. The good part is that our agreed-upon closing can be as late as the end of spring 2016.

Funny to find THIS downsizing article in today's NY Times headlines email. It highlights a number of the issues.

Sounds like you got the best of all worlds in this deal. More $ than you really expected initially and lots of time to find a new tent.

thanks val, and we are only a little scared our son Ben (32) is the most nostalgic; he's lived in this house since age 18 months!

We are closing in on a deal for a condo that's really neat (conversion of a stone church into 6 units, with 12 car garage in the basement). About 1900 sq. ft. with 2 BR, 2.5 bath and some cool touches. I'll post some pics if/when we seal the deal.

It's waaaaaaaaaaay too much money but I am slowly talking Kathy into it.

We need to negotiate a bit more, but developer is motivated to get the first of 6 units SOLD They are also very flexible on a settlement date in mid-spring 2016.
