I would love to downsize to someplace warmer but I'll never get Patty to move plus we are putting a bundle in this house to update everything.

We sold our 3 bedroom house in January (2650 sq. ft) and moved to a 1065 sq ft. 2 bedroom condo. Hated giving up the freedom of owning the house (no silly rules about when to put the trash out there). Gave away a lot of furniture, stuff in general. Condo living is okay (nice not to have to pay someone to shovel snow) but definitely takes some adjustment.
That's an adjustment I hope I never have to make...... we both feel that way, so I don't see it in my future but you never know.
Ken. You've been to my place right? [/quote]
I have Lainey. Both Yoon-Hee and I were there a couple of years ago.

That would be Nor'Easter 08...I bet there's a pic somewhere.

Looks like I cleaned house with some pics, but here's a shot of our deck with folks on a Sunday afternoon after the Nor'Easter 08. Guess you hadn't arrived yet Ken.

Small house, small yard....

Of course you did! Well I think you did. Did you go to the Battleship Cove, vs our little Sunday drive, then Bea needed a rest? Some folks had also gone to the F1 Cart outing, I think.......... I thought you joined us at a little restaurant for dinner, maybe not as you were continuing with your road trip.

Herman is in the pic, along with Jo and Dave (HabFan) from Canada, Roy's +1 Carole is in the pic, along with Bobbie +1 of WHRDlMI/Jeff.

:hideshisheadinshame: Yes, we did go to Battleship Cove vs. your drive. We then joined you for dinner at an Italian restaurant. Mea culpa, or however you spell it! Now I remember, though it has been almost 7 years...

Well someone's memory is worse than mine? I feel good about that! You come my way and we'll throw a party on my deck! You're buying the beer.

Funny this thread appeared. We signed a listing agreement last Friday to sell our house and land. This will be our third attempt since 2011, but the market is up, we have done some major things to make it more appealing. The house isn't too big for us, but the surrounding area we maintain is too much. We have to finish some things before our listing is made public, so it may be a few weeks before it's really "on the market".

Deal! Same goes for you. Our deck is always open for a party. Down here we serve steamed blue crabs, instead of lobstah. You'll have to adjust...

Here are my thoughts on downsizing to a condo. I live in "God's Waiting Room" with lots of condos. Unfortunately they come with neighbors and condo associations. I can't tell you how many unhappy retired people live in condos. Most come from a successful background and a nice house with a yard.

Suddenly they're in a beautiful condo with all the amenities but they have nothing to do. The rumor mill runs rampant. Former power brokers now retired are in need of an outlet. They all have lawyers. Let the lawsuits begin. Association bylaws are enforced to the letter, power fights go on and on and on. Condo commandos are everywhere. They come in both sexes and are injurious to your health.

If you're thinking of a condo, look hard at a smaller house and divert funds to do the maintenance. It's usually cheaper and most certainly less stressful. If you're into being in charge, go for the condo and enjoy the carnage.

That's my 2 cents worth
