Even though my children have required more of my services, monies, and attention, I still love them much more than my pets -- even though I love my pets a lot, albeit not a dog.

I had a geologist who worked for me who raised guide dogs for the blind. He had a dog that he loved dearly get into some grapes, a lot of grapes, which dogs can't eat. The dog had kidney failure. They spent $11,000 on dialysis.....and the dog still died.

We joke that our dog is "The Million Dollar Dog".

It took too long to get rid of the kids. No way am I going to get a pet to tie me down.

We had a dog when I was growing up (before my allergies surfaced) and my mother and father treated the dog better than me! Rightfully so as I treated them worst than the dog did.

When my late wife was alive I always wished that my allergies didn't keep us from getting a dog. It would have been a perfect companion for her.

I saw a bumper sticker that said "Happy Retirement is when the kids moved out and the dog died".

Interesting responses. I think Lainey and Dave responded along the lines of my original post. I really wasn't wondering if YOU have dogs. I'm wondering more about your kids or other millennial or gen-xers. For those who have kids that are grown and out of the house, do they have children, dogs or both?

Bill, my daughter will be 30 within a month. She doesn't want kids but has three cats and a dog with her live-in boyfriend. They are both zookeepers at the Sacramento Zoo, and get enough taking care of animals, there. I was staying with her the past five days and got to bond with my grandson, Logan.

My son is 28 and has a dog, two cats, a wife, and may soon get another rescue puppy. He and his wife plan on having kids but not right away.

^This is my son's rescue puppy Nami. I haven't met my "grand daughter" yet since he got her after I was at his Niwot, CO house in August.
