Grand uncle is 99, just met him in CA over the holidays...he's in a really nice assisted living development ...the oldest resident, and one of the few men!
Other than some hearing loss, he looks / behaves like a youngster in his 70's.

My Grandmother will be 102 in a couple of weeks....still sharp as a tack.
I have long said: That as much as I would like to live along life, I really mean as long as I have quality of life. As we all know, that is a relative term.
May we all be lucky enough to fulfill that relative dream.

My grandmother passed away just last week at 98. Never smoked, very seldom drank, and lived on her own until the day she died. She was very active socially in a retirement village until she was in her 90s. I think that is a large part of why she lasted as long as she did.

I think that it is pretty amazing that 2/3's of the people that responded to this poll have had family members that have lived to be 100.
I realize that it is unscientific and a backward comparison (SO BACK OFF)
But, this result would have been very unlikely even a score ago.

Still living is a member of our church whose name is Ada Mutch....turned 100 in 2005. Read interesting story HERE She's a good friend of Kathy's and still comes to church! Her father was one of the early pastors of our church and she grew up in the 'manse'. A lot the folks that she taught in Sunday School are now in their 70s and 80s....
Kathy's grandmother lived to age 98 and her mother (now failing) is 92, so she has good genes too

I worked with a woman who retired at 84. Her mother lived with her until she died at 102. The older lady worked as an RN until she was 86. After she retired she used to take the bus to the county fairgrounds and bet on the horse races. I figure my old coworker will also live an active life into her next century.

My great, great aunt Hattie lived to 105. She was a one-room, country school teacher, never married, lived on a farm, planted flowers and vegetable gardens, and didn't smoke or drink. She lived in a nursing home the last five years but was still mentally with it until death. I began to write to her when she moved to the home, I was in CA, she in Iowa, and I wished I had started long before that. A wonderful woman with an ornery streak.
