Do you think the manual transmission will survive?

one of the reasons we got rid of the Evo X was it had flappy paddle gearbox Got a 6 speed BRZ and kept the WRX no autos in this house until it is absolutely necessary
The newer ATs are much better than the older ones; Seven forward gears make shifting very smooth and effortless. But I don't like to drive an automatic on roads with hills and changing elevations, because it shifts constantly without your permission!
The CVC transmission is everywhere now. It is smooth and increases fuel mileage, but it is lame and boring.
I don't like an automatic at the track either, even with paddle shifters. I like more driver control. But monster track cars like the GT-R only come with an automatic with paddles.
I recently heard an interview with a GM engineer singing the praises of the new Chevy Cruze 2L turbodiesel that is to be introduced in the US this spring. The engine is super clean, fuel efficient, and highly advanced in its technology - with 7 separately phased fuel injections in each intake cycle. For a small engine the torque and power are apparently phenomenal. He claimed that it is a great driver! At first i was listening closely. BUT it is coming in with only one transmission choice -- an automatic! Like Rob, -- not for me.
Anyway, I personally hope the manual transmission as an option for control freaks is here to stay, especially with internal combustion engines.

^^ I can understand Dean's needs. After my back sitch, I had extreme difficulty pressing the clutch and using that ONE leg repeatedly. It took a good while for me to feel comfortable driving and then as soon as I'd begun to enjoy the driving again, smash. I'm very happy with the transmission in my "family style" car that replaced the S, but I do not think I'll ever get over yearning for another S. Our lives have changed considerably in the past few years and with those changes came changes in our vehicle needs. +1 has constant non-ending back pain and is very uncomfortable in most vehicles. His comfort is #1 as far as I'm concerned, so I seriously doubt another sports car is in our future. We still have his vintage vette but I've noticed he speaks of letting that go from time to time. I will not voice an opinion and will leave that to his discretion. It'll be a good buy for someone some day.

When I was younger and in better condition, I never would have owned a car with an AT, just seemed sacrilegious to me.

On second thought, maybe we don't want to know!

Me: got old degenerative rotator cuff issues both sides.
Him: body surfing, slammed by a wave, three surgeries, arm doesn't work well. Don't ask him for a high five.

Jerry you weren't supposed to tell!
Oh yeah, we can add a broken leg to the mix too. Rick back in the day seemed a bit accident prone. Yes, we MUST keep at least one automatic in the house, but I DO enjoy the manual in the S2000.

Certain cars need to have a stick: the S, a Corvette, Porsche etc. so I hope the option is always there. However, for driving around town, I need the automatic so I can hold my Starbucks in one hand and steer with the other.
Sorry Rob.
