Once again, location, location, location. We have a 70's ranch (in need of lots of work as you all know), 2500 sf, 2 acre lot and we're paying less in mortgage than our kids are paying to rent 1/2 of an ancient house in downtown Mystic, CT with not one inch of yard and the house is so slanted they have to put a 2x4 under one end of furniture to level it up! They have 2 tiny tiny tiny bedrooms and one tiny bath. Then consider it costs them $600/mo to heat, and their electricity bill is another $250/mo. Our electric bill in the summer with the a/c running full time and the pool pump running isn't $250. I cannot figure out why we can't convince them to move!!!!!!

My daughter just purchased a 4 year old all brick condo 1200 square foot for $107K. It was a forclosure sale and the bank provided 2 years of home insurance, along with paying 75% of the closing costs. She definately got a deal.

I do the main cleaning, my wife does none (except laundry). Cleaning after working long hours is not my idea of fun, but like my car, I like things clean. My wife tends to take care of all our kid issues/practices etc..., so cleaning does not seem so bad

It appers we have some who do spring clean and those who don't know what it is. Then we have a quite a few who do heavy cleaning when the mood hits them.
I love these official scientific polls. They answer so many questions about our behavior.

Lainey, I was wondering if Spring Cleaning was a back-east thing. Like when the snow melts and it warms up, you clean up the cave you've been stuck in all winter? I don't know. Just a thought.

I have friends who were really extreme with it. Totally emptied the room of all furnishings. I used to be pretty faithful to the twice a year heavy cleaning routine, but now, I find I don't care as much about it as when I was younger. This is the first time in a while that all the rooms will have received the spring cleaning treatment in a reasonalbe time frame. For the most part, I have better things to do with my time now. The other night my granddaughter spent the night. She gets my full attention when she's there and she's a lot more fun than cleaning.

ITS TIME TO LEAVE THE CAVE, LAINEY. Call Geico, its so easy a caveman can do it.
It's been undercover and parked in the driveway for about 3 months. We were both surprised at how good it looks. We'll be taking a spin after work tomorrow!
Then it gets cold again.

Michigan was the only state in the US where the average house price dropped in 2006. Out of all the metro cities in Michigan, my hometown had largest % drop of any. Want to buy house? Houses in our sub used to go in 2-3 weeks; now some have been for sale for years. It's been a rough time in the old-GM/Ford/Chrysler dependent sub-contractors. Every day it seems the headlines are another company closing. My son's closed (TRW) and moved everything to Mexico this past June.
