Do you recycle?

You get used to it and when someone new comments about Naples being a really clean city, you notice it again.

Here in Delaware, we have voluntary single-stream recycling, which pretty much includes everything except food waste, Styrofoam, etc. We have a special container for recycling that is emptied weekly by our trash hauler. In fact, we have 3 separate containers that we put out each Monday: Recycle, Yard Waste, and Garbage, which are each picked up by a different truck. Most people in our area, as far as I can determine from looking at the cans at the curb each week, do, in fact, voluntarily recycle.
I find that our recycle container is almost always full each week, while the general garbage container (^like Vadster) is only about 1/4 full. So, yes, I feel good about recycling!

We take our boxes, styrofoam, plastic junk, etc. to the recycle center. We use waste management for our garbage. I do not use a recycle service and we do not use return-type bottles or cans. I recycle more than I used to, but less than I should but all that I'm ever going to do unless compelled by the save the planet police. I feel that I try to save the planet more by using organic products in gardening, no harmful pesticides, etc. That's all I plan on ever doing. We have very little trash, etc.

We return our beverage containers for the 5 cent deposits, some places give 6 cents. In NY the deposit is on nearly everything, including water.
Our trash collection company added zero sort about a year ago, so now all the recycleables go in one container that gets dumped in the truck and sorted at the landfill. I seems good not needing separate containers for metal, glass, cardboard & plastics.

We have a lot of manicured and planted roadways and Naples is very proud of the appearance. Things grow quickly here so there's always maintenance crews out.
I don't see any litter police anywhere. Just no litter.

All you tree huggers just annoy me!
How are the people working the mines to get the raw materials supposed to live if we recycle, cutting down their wages, hours, benefits? Steel, aluminum, etc......
What about the lumberjacks..... how are they supposed to earn a living if we don't need to cut down trees? Recycling paper cuts their standard of living.....
How about all the soybean farmers.... which harvest the crop to be used in gasoline and plastics... anyone ever think about them?
Recycle glass? How about the silica, sand, etc miners...... what are they supposed to do at Christmas?

My tree-hugger wouldn't have it any other way and has trained me well. We store it all and take it to two different centers. The thing that sets me off is people who take stuff to one center that isn't supervised to use as a dump; ie, old worn out quilt, for example, tossed in with cardboard or whatever. Makes me want to toss them in too.

Several years ago I just happen to be looking out of a window when a vehicle turned the corner in front of our house and tossed out a bag of trash from McDonald's. I grabbed my keys, ran and picked up the bag and hopped in our Toyota truck that we had at that time and went off up the road to catch the vehicle. As fate would have it, the young man driving the car was just pulling up in front of a house about 6/10th of a mile a way. I pulled up behind him as he was getting out of his vehicle and walked over to him and simply said: "You dropped this". The look of bewilderment on his face was priceless. I feel fairly certain that I may have broken him of this habit, or at least made him think twice before littering again.
