They raise the kids a LOT tougher here in MI. From the very start we had rain with 21 mph wind that gusted to 41 mph and then it turned to snow. Still we had a steady stream of kids for 1.5 hours. We give out full size candy bars - Hershey, Payday, Reese's, M&M covered peanuts, etc., etc. Our count last year was 125. I don't have a count for this year (the counter was tired and went to bed) but I know she made two trips to the basement freezer for more candy. I can't begin to show you all the Halloween decorations she puts out but this will give you a clue.

I don't get trick or treaters. My driveway is long and steep. The houses are far apart.

Tracks from dragging two trash cans down to the street on Wednesday.

Our trick or treating was from 6 pm to 8 pm, so at 8 pm, I turned out the lights.

Even though it was raining and very windy, we had 22 kids.

We passed out fun sized chocolate candy, which we bought at Costco.

The bag had the following:
  • M&M's Peanut
  • M&M's Plain
  • Reese's Peanut Butter Cups
  • Snickers
  • Kit Kat
  • Twix
  • Milky Way
  • Almond Joy
  • 100 Grand
  • York Peppermint Patties

All the kids around us grew up! We did get a couple of large groups with smal kids, so those kids got huge handfuls of candy Just the typical mixed bag of candy (Reeses, snickers, etc).

I remember Halloween when I was nine like it was yesterday. Why? Because that was the day my family and I moved from Kansas to California. We stopped in Oklahoma to say goodbye to my aunt, uncle and cousins, and my cousin, who had been out trick or treating, shared his candy with me.

I remember trick or treating in California because that's the only place I ever did it. I lived in North Hollywood until I was 23. The San Fernando Valley. A Valley Girl who never acted like it.

Long dark, downhill driveway through the woods.
In 20 years we've had 5 trick or treaters.

Liz won't let me open the package of M&Ms we bought to give to the trick or treaters who never came. It's such a shame for all of that candy to go to waste, especially when I would appreciate it. I'll have to figure out a way to distract her while I open the package.
