Do I really need all this stuff?

I'm presently purging to reach about half of my present "size", and want to do it fast. An auctioneer was at my house today. He and others like him in my area sell to other retailers, not to end users. These guys will take almost anything except clothing, CRT-type TV sets and cabinets dimensioned for that, and really junky cheap furniture. Still "nice" cheap furniture is OK. He pointed to a rusty old steel file cabinet in my shed and claims he can move it. 12 ft of rusty logging chain, and an old fertilizer spreader - OK. A scrapped up but otherwise quality bedroom dresser and a 20 year old freezer chest - no problem. Even an old LP turntable that I didn't think he would touch. Guns and reloading equipment sell especially well he said, but I'll try to sell those myself. Clothes will go to Goodwill and become a tax deduction.
Most of it won't bring much money this way, but recovering equity is not the main objective. He's coming with a truck next week to scoop it all up. To me it feels like a big liberation of both time and bother.

I have 4Sevens Quark MiniX 123. It's a mere 2.3" long and it puts out 210 lumens. Unreal for something so small. I takes a 3-volt lithium battery but a 12-pack will last me a life time.

Victory - I did something similar when Auntie died. There were several auction houses about 40 miles from her house in NC. One came over with a big truck and took everything that could be auctioned off. It worked great. They got 10% (very reasonable IMO) and I got the rest. As you said, didn't get a huge amount of money, but it saved me a big hassle clearing out her house.

We did that with my Mom's stuff too. Some of my siblings wanted certain items and they moved them. The remainder went to a second-hand dealer who moved the stuff and paid a nominal amount for the rest. We felt it was a good deal.
