Discussion and review of Good Movies

The Longest Day-The story of D-Day in an attempt to tell it from all sides. Not perfectly historically accurate, but close enough to be worth watching. Filmed in black and white, this is a great movie. A movie that I've seen a number of times and I never get tired of seeing. If you have never seen it, see it. If you have seen it see it again. A great movie with an all-star cast. Worth the time spent watching it.

I watched Parallel on Amazon Prime Video. It is a science fiction genre but quite entertaining. Four computer software (apps) developer friends come upon a mirror that enables them to travel to a parallel universe. Time spent in that universe is fraction of the current universe. They are able to take advantage of time lapse in developing a parking apps since it takes several months in that parallel universe but only a few days in current one. As they taste this newly found power to travel back and forth, some of them takes this to a new level of experimenting. Eventually, man's insatiable longing for more causes devastating consequences where their friendship once solid is now shattered. This movie makes you think about man's nature that is not all that great. If given chance, man will foul things up most likely.

My sweetheart and I went to see West Side Story tonight (12-18-21). I was unfamiliar with it. I'm not a fan of musicals unless they are Disney's animal types like the Jungle Book and Lion King, but it was watchable.

The original West Side Story is my all time favorite musical. I am disappointed that Natalie Wood, a non latina, played Maria, but I loved Rita Moreno and the rest of the cast. Of course you have to use your imagination, New York gangs don't exactly sing and dance, but for pure entertainment it's hard to beat. I'm glad you liked Spielbergs version. I wondered how it would turn out. I haven't seen it yet except for a few brief cuts. I understand that Rachel Zegler is very good as Maria. I did see the cut of the Sharks singing and dancing to "America". It was good, not quite as good as Rita Moreno in the original, but good. I can't wait to see it.

The Electrical Life of Louis Wain - An Amazon original staring Benedict Cumberbatch...maybe his best work to date. If you enjoyed his performance in The Imitation Game you will probably like this movie a lot. It is at times funny and at times dark, as was the life of the subject, artist Louis Wain.

Watched four movies on Amazon over the past day or two. A Russian war movie with subtitles was the best; titled Star. A second war movie, USS Indianapolis, was one hell'va true story but that movie wasn't one I would rate high. Poison Rose with John Travolta and Morgan Freeman falls into the same rating. The last was Madame, a waste of time.
