Discussion and review of Good Movies

I was bored and it was too hot to do much so I watched an old one. Witness. I'd seen it before; made in 1985 and staring Harrison Ford, who plays a cop hiding in a Amish community in PA. I found it an excellent movie. Although the pace was slow it seemed to fit well to put you in the living Amish frame of mind.

Went and saw the new Lion King Friday night with my son. We saw it Opening Day in 1994 (he was 3.5, I was 26), so we had some good memories come rushing back, with his wife watching both of us cry during the opener.
The CGI realism was the best yet by Disney. The first without any human characters on-screen with the CGI realism (read: Jungle Book and Dumbo).
They keep with the original story (the opener is an exact redo from the 1994 version, including the leaf ants, which aren't native to Africa), removed all the other non-African animals, add a few more natives species for scenery.
The Timon and Pumba section was spot on! Saw a video that the producer had the voice actors physically act out the scenes and riff the enitre scene!
I like the fact they removed all the "human" aspects of the animals, like the 1994 version had. Great step forward!
If you saw the 1994 version, go see this one. It's worth it to see it in the theaters. We caught a 5:30 Matinee in HD (not 3D or XD (i.e. IMAX)) for $5 on Opening Day, so you can do it on the cheap.

Glory-A fine movie telling a mostly unknown story that should be heard. Excellent acting, excellent script, I enjoyed this movie and would recommend it to anyone. If you like history you'll like this movie. Even if you don't, the movie is worth watching.
The movie was originally released in 1989, but it was re-released on its 30th anniversary. I missed it the first time around, but once I found out about it I borrowed a copy from the library.

I watched Hacksaw Ridge tonight. A really love & hate movie for me. I'd wanted to watch it for a number of years and finally did tonight. Great story but the gory over the top CGI war scenes sucked and the movie deserved better.
