I have a nifty credit card that pays back 4% on gasoline, 3% on movies, 2% on groceries, and 1% on everything else. If your going to buy it, why not get something back. It's also a good way to keep track of where your money is going.

me too, I often find myself walking out stores that don't take AMEX and going someplace else... yeah, they save a percent or two by not taking it, but what good does that do if I don't buy anything??

We use a MC 'Cash Rewards' card for everything possible, except gas goes on an AAA Visa 'Rewards' card. Both are scheduled online and paid off each month w/o fail from our checking acct. Today I used a card for a $3 purchase b/c I love the ability to get a statement at the end of the year, with everything separated into 6-8 categories.

I get a $20 or two from The Bank of Kathy She withdraws a chunk as needed and doles out a little mad money to me....probably less than 20/week. I rarely even use an ATM....unless travelling outside the country.

Btw, here's REAL DEAL that only works here in SE Peeay and some parts of Zippyland (south NJ):

Wawa credit card pays a 10% rebate on purchases at their convenience stores....like a 7-11 or Cumberland Farms in other areas. I have used it over the past 3 months for almost all GAS. Imagine....it reduces that $3/gallon to a mere $2.70/gallon Sadly, this is only effective for the first 90 days of use....then it reverts to a 4% rebate

What's money look like? Can someone post a picture? I forget...I have a wife and a teenager.

Actually, I use AmEx for everything. If a place won't take AmEx, then I use my VISA check card. I rarely carry cash.

Well, I give the cash to my wife and use the credit card for gas and my stuff. She owns the company so ...
I got one of the 10% off per purchase for a year Chevron cards and every month $10 - $14 is deducted from the bill. All cards are paid in full each month so my credit report #'s are only in the 780 range.

^ Yes, it's kind of ironic that the better you are about paying things off, the lower your credit rating is. Mine is in the upper 700s, also.

But you still get half a dozen unsolicited credit cards in the mail every month!

I carry only a little bit of cash most of the time (50 bucks or less). Most everything goes on a credit card that pays airline milage/rewards; I pay it off monthly. I rarely write checks anymore. I have a debit card but don't use it very often ( USAA gives 6 free ATMs a month). Credit card/ debit card is the way to go if you are on travel overseas.

I'm lucky if I have 20 bucks in my pocket at any one time...

I use my plastic for virtually everything, it not only creates a wonderful organized history of purchases, but with cash I don't see discounts. As an example I have 1 seperate card for just my gas, I get a 5% refund per month for all gas purchases, then I just pay off the total amount due and let the credit grow until it gets really big and then I use it to credit back against my bill. That's when I feel like I got my gas for free for an entire month.
