Thumbs up Debit card, credit card or cash

At the VT meet this weekend, we had a few young guys who were "cash challenged" when it came to meal time or somewhere else along the line.

They always need an ATM. I floated a couple of loans and am pleased to report they all paid their debts in full.

We always have some cash and use credit and/or debit cards while traveling as well.

So, is this a younger generation thing, or do you also carry almost no cash these days?

I hate carrying cash, no accounting of the spend, it gets bulky in the wallet, it's dirty, etc... I do everything on a debit or charge card (no credit cards).

Since they started charging for ATMs a decade or so ago, I've refused to use them (my little credit union doesn't have its own). I generally have some cash in my wallet, since I go to the credit union & take out maybe $100 every couple weeks, but virtually everything else is paid for on the AMEX. I get points, I can't carry a balance, and I get an itemized summary each year.

I have one VISA for places that won't take AMEX.

I like to have a few dollars in my wallet but most of the time I use a debit or credit card. The CC gets payed off completely every month.

I'm not allowed to have cash and I can't use my ATM/credit card because Martha won't tell me what my PIN is.

So no cash, no credit cards? Remind me not to go to lunch with you unless Martha is around too.

I always thought that debit/check cards are the worst to carry (as you do not have the protection of a credit card when it comes to lost/stolen cards).

IE-you are only liable for $50 on a stolen card, versus a debit card which does not have that protection.

As far as carrying cash goes, I try to carry as little as possible ($25 or less/week).

I am a change fanatic though--I daily separate my change, & roll them as needed.

I get a few quarters every week so I can get "lunch" out of the vending machines at work.
That would be a wise thing to do and what everyone else does.
