Danica 5th on the Indy Starting Grid
Danica Patrick finally won an Indy Car race in Japan. She's qualified to start in 5th place on race day. What do you think her odds are to win Indy? In an interview this week she said that has always been one of her major goals, and that is what she is paid to do.

Seriously her chances are a bit better than that but the trick at Indy has always been how to keep a fast car fast for 200 laps without breaking it.

Prediction, she will finish between 5th and 7th.
I think that she has skill, and she is with one of the "Big 3", but I'm still not convinced that she in in the same league as Castroneves, Weldon, Kanaan, or Dixon, but of course that's just my opinion.

The driver can control their destiny much easier than driving in the pack nascar.
mind you they really dial back the downforce to the minimum so they don't give up speed but they hardly have any turning power.
so much of it boils down to racers luck.
if you pit just before a yellow, oops.
if your rolling down the pits when the yellow comes out, bingo
a cut tire end your day pretty quickly.

For whatever reasons it seems to be easier for racers to win a second race. That new confidence does mean something in a race, where timing and luck and other intangibles often decide the winner. She could win, but I don't think she will this time.

Nobody wants it more. Michael was all smiles as team owner knowing he played a part in history. She has to be so damn glad that the pressure and monkey is off her back. I certainly agree that the competition Zippy listed are in the hunt. I'd say she has at least a 1 in 5 chance.
