I wonder why since you folks live that close together you don't ride together or take public transportation.

Just sayin'
Now there is a concept!

I'd be glad to if I could find someone who kept the same erratic hours that I do and ended up at the same spot I do. I often end my day at a client, and often can't predict more than a day or two in advance which client it will be. When I go to a client with an assistant, we always go together in one car.

I wish New Jersey had a better mass transportation system. I'd leave my car home on the days I'm spending in the office. Unfortunately, the mass transit system here is dedicated to only to getting people into and out of New York City. If you work and live in New Jersey you have to use a car.

Moreover, I'd have a little less to say about the SUVs if they'd car pool. 90% of the SUVs that I see commuting are one occupant. At least I get 23.5 mpg, the SUVs are one occupant at 16 mpg.

[QUOTE=martha,May 6 2008, 05:35 PM] Ah, but that falls into the category of "you should have thought of that before you bought it" -- kind of like those folks that shouldn't have had more than the average number of kids.

The Carpoint.com MPG ratings of the S2000 (2007) are pretty close to what they show for the CR-V (20city/26hwy for the S2000 vs 20/27 for the CR-V).

I filled up Monday morning (11 gallons/278miles on the trip odo) for roughly 25.3mpg (my daily commute is just under 15 miles one way, and no highway miles).

On the drive up & back to the Dragon last month, I was averaging over 33mpg on the highway.

It seems to me that Carpoint estimates on the low side-so it wouldn't surprise me that Martha is getting 25ish plus on her CR-V.
I added this to my post a few posts up while you were posting your post. I'm putting it here in answer to what you've said about your milage calculations.

By the way, it has nothing to do with being senile or whether or not you can do arithmetic. It has to do with the way you track your milage over the course of time. If you are actually getting the milage that you report, more power to you. I wish everyone was doing so well. It has long been my experience that people who quote averages in a range aren't calculating their milage over the long run but rather are quoting the results of one or two tankfulls. Generally when people look at one or two tankfulls (instead of tracking their milage over a long period) they tend to look at the more optimistic tankfulls (highway driving, etc.) and project those numbers over the long run. It has also been my experience that when there are posted mpg expectations, which by the way tend to be optimistic, the actual results usually tend to be somewhere near the middle, generally on the low side.

I'm not saying that you don't get the milage that you said, but if you do I'd expect that you are doing much better with your CR-V than the average owner.

My Si's average milage, which by the way is 23.5 not 23, is the actual average, not a projection based on a few tankfulls. I have a record of every drop of gas that went into the car and every mile on the odometer.

The intangible, of course, is the traffic. You put on most of your miles traffic free on the highway. Most of my miles are in stop and go traffic and New Jersey congestion. While my situation is to the other extreme than yours, I'd venture to guess it more closely resembles how most people use their vehicles.

Again, I congratulate you on getting such good milage in your CR-V, I think you are the exception, not the rule.

All of that said, when the crusher comes, the CR-V goes first

Yeah right, you sanctimonious little prick. What I choose to drive is none of your god damned business. I've had my fill of your incessant, preening pomposity, so kindly STFU. And you can shove this "nonsensical rant" up your ass, just move your head out of the way first.

This could be a thread killer.

Well, having thought it through, the original premise of this thread has been hijacked, perhaps we should lock this one now.

What?

I'm sorry, I must be in the wrong place. I thought that this was the Vintage Forum.

It's your thread. If you want it locked, just say the word.
