Just saw a headline that chicken farms in MD and DE are destroying 2M chickens due to staffing shortages from the virus. It was not a major issue when they were chicks but now that they have grown, it is.

Wow. Chicken is a very big deal in Delaware. What a waste. I wonder if they couldn't just offer significantly higher pay on a temporary basis to attract more labor. Everybody would still probably lose money but production might make up some of those losses.

A lot of processing plants have the employees practically sitting on top of each other. It may not be possible to provide safe social distancing and still process the chicken.

Yep. Also, the chicken processors here hire mainly Hispanics to man the lines. One of the highest Covid infection rates is in the county seat of our southern-most county, and there is a large Hispanic population there, quite a few of which work in those plants. A sad situation indeed.

Said this in another thread, but cheers to all. Going to pour a rum on some ice and go sit out in the yard since it is nice and sunny out. I think most of us on here have it a lot better than many do on even a normal day, so we can be thankful for that. Have a drink (whether that be coffee, water or strong elixir)/smoke or whatever you like and try to stay sane during this time!
