Haven't posted on S2Ki in forever. So Hey! What's new?

16+ years of owning my s2000 now. I've had a Comptech dual exhaust on the car for about 15 years. I'm seriously considering switching back to the stock exhaust that has been sitting in my garage all these years. I feel like this might be the only place where I can get some support for doing this. It used to just be my wife that would complain about how loud the car is, but to be honest I'm kind of tired of it too.

I think we'll get more use and enjoyment out of the car if we switch back. Help me out fellow Vintage Owners. Has anyone switched back to the stock exhaust? Tell me it is going to be OK.

I was considering doing the same with my Super Sprint exhaust. After awhile the drone can get annoying.

 

The stock exhaust is fine with me....during 14 yrs of ownership I've thought of changing it out many times but I know I'd tire of it quickly.

I always had the stock exhaust on my S2000. From time to time I would hear an aftermarket exhaust at meets that I really liked, in the end I always ended up keeping and enjoying the stocker.

My NSX went from really loud and drone prone, but super light Dali Racing exhaust to kind of loud and heavier CT Engineering (Comptech), to the heavy but mellow OEM exhaust. I was happiest with stock.

I used to have a Civic Si on which I installed a really nice sounding Mugen cat-back. I enjoyed it a lot but when I took the car back to stock for resale I was like "wow...this car was really fun and sounded really good right from the factory."

Maybe put the stocker back on, but hold on to the Comptech for a few weeks just in case?

We put many miles on our 2004 S2000, 87+. I enjoy it, but I don't think I would enjoy it as much if we had an exhaust with the droning. Go stock, enjoy the car more.

 

Do the UK mod to the stock exhaust. It only has a growl when you get on it hard. Nice for long trips and easier to sneak around when you are being bad. Lol

 

I had the Spugen single for a couple of years. I put it on to reduce weight a bit and if I picked up two to three HP somewhere on the power band, fine. I was auto crossing back then. The drone sucked. I made a baffle for it to try and cut the drone down. It worked a little, but also lost some power. I switched back to stock and was VERY happy.

I'm not really sure what you are worried about. If the drone is getting old, take it off. After all, your not a 20 something kid anymore. It's ok to mature and realize less noise is better. If you really don't like the sound of the stock system, you can put the Comptech back on.

 

My friend Tom717 gave me his Super Sprint exhaust about 5+ years ago when he was turning in his S2000 off a lease. I had it installed an enjoyed it for many years...not so much DROOOOOOOOOONE in my opinion (but don't ask my +1)

After a few years the SS (apparently only the second one imported into the US) developed a crack in one of the joints...would not pass PA state inspection They said it could not be fixed so I re--installed the OE one sitting in the basement.

I saved the SS and gave it back to Tom717. He got a local welder to FIX it and it's back on his car....which was just sold (another story )

Except for the crack/leak in the Super Sprint, I would still have it. I loved that it sounded more like a sports car and not so much like a vacuum cleaner My two cents (and I am 70....not 43 )

 

I'm going to put 1200 miles on my '06 with the Tanabe Medalion Touring dual exhaust over a long weekend next month. Will see if the exhaust is still wonderful after then!
