Connie's new tires - blow out question
so connie was on way down after getting a new set of tires not three hours before and she was doing about 83 on route 128 South
the shop said she might feel a shimmy because 3 rims were bent (they look perfect) and they said it's not a safety hazard
car starts to shake and she pulls off...
any idea why a tire might have blown like this??

Wow...it's interesting that it split right at the connection between the tread and the sidewall. Tire defect/improper installation??

That's darn scary! Glad she's OK!

On brandy-new tires I'd say it was a manufacturing defect.
even with incredibly bad balance it takes tires a long time to scrub down.
where did she get them installed?
and what kind were they?

Continental Extreme Contact - recommended by Direct tire
put the spare on the frt and the frt on the rear and she was on her way

I'm certainly no expert in tires, but it appears to me that the tire deflated and there was direct contact between the rim/tire/roadway. Maybe the installer did not property inflate the tire or there was some air leakage.

I'm thinking I'd want all four off of the car and a refund asap.
It certainly would bring out my darker side, I'd be a flaming F'ing A-hole in a heartbeat.

we did check all the other tires and they read 35 when we rolled in as jim said the tires could have just been a little high psi because they were warm after driving
you're right thought i'm sure connie will post in this thread when she has time and i am sure the tire place will take care of her - she does have the dragon trip coming up later this month

Actually, my first call was to direct tire to let them know I found the "shimmy" that they said I might feel. Unfortunately, they were closed for the day when I called. My confidence has been shaken in relation to the tires and the installation. Direct Tire are the only folks who's ever touched my tires/wheels and everything has been fine up till now. I'm disappointed that they told me about the wheels only after the fact. I'm going to get those looked at as well, by someone else.
My second call was to Bass to let him know I would be delayed. He jumped in his car and came to my rescue, changing out the tires and leading me back to his house for dinner. Thanks Steve. Thanks to Lynda as well for keeping the party rolling while Bass and I were getting the S back on the road.
Oh and I did call Ray to let him know his mother nearly took a big bite out of the sh*t sandwich of life!
