Default Computer scam

My brother-in-law just got scammed by someone calling themselves agents for microsoft. The email address is support@ifixyrpc.com, apparently they have been doing this for 2 or 3 year's. They call you up saying that they were notified by microsoft to fix your computer. They get your CC information and charge $200. for the service. They also told my BIL that if he stops payment on this, they will charge him another $100.. I found this online about complaint's from others. http://www.theogray.com/blog/2010/07...routing-system

I don't mean any offense to your BIL Glen but how many of these people were born under rocks? MS makes software not computers! Plus if anyone calls and want my CC info I automatically hang up or give them fake info.

You would think people would be more suspicious but I doubt it. Tonight's news said the number fake work-at-home scams vs real jobs runs 60 to 1. When I turn on my PC I see an ad that says a fruit will allow me to loss 12 pounds a month. And there's that cream that made a 52 year old women look 27. Clearly there are sufficient numbers of people who fall for this stuff.

I know it's a bit late, but here are a few things for future reference:

1.) Microsoft does not contract out their support.
2.) The only computer hardware Microsoft makes is keyboards and mice
3.) Any email from Microsoft will have their name in the email address
