The "Competition"

The "Competition"
I just caught up on some reading over at S2KCA, where a number of S2KI folks, many from Vintage, spent time during the aborted upgrade outage. (I'm a paid member there, under a different alias.)
Seems a couple of the reprobates () here did a little test: they posted a thread about this very topic (probably at the main S2KI forum, or somewhere like that), and it got deleted. A followup thread asking why also got locked (at least).
I, too, wonder why. It could be that the COs on that particular forum didn't like it (in which case, we'll see what our Vintage COs do), or it could be that word from higher up came down (perhaps this latter: I seem to remember Lainey saying one time that mere COs can lock but not delete threads.) One quoted reason was that the deleted thread wasn't S2KI related.
Well, this current one is, because it's questioning whether S2KI, which gladly takes our money, is open to criticism, to questions, to the normal freedom of discussion that we all take for granted with respect to other topics. If not, it would be helpful, at least, to see a clear list of what's off limits beyond the obvious things in the user agreement. HPH

The second thread, the one questioning why the first one was locked, was closed by Ludedude who is a site administrator. Apparently, this is policy of the management of S2KI.
The reason given for closing the original thread was that it was not "S2KI related". As a matter of fact, it was. It was a thread started by batguano (who like myself is a paid member in both places) simply saying that during the S2KI outage people who posted to S2KCA were warmly welcomed.
It is quite clear that the management of S2KI does not like the competition and doesn't like or wish to tolerate criticism.
For the most part Vintage has been allowed to operate autonomously. I think this episode indicates just how very fragile that is. Vintage is, has always been and will always be allowed only at the whim of S2KI management and it's administrators. It may be time for many of you to consider taking a serious look at S2KCA.

I know nothing about the situation to which you're referring, nor am I aware of any policy concerning the discussion of other S2K sites. If it's left to my discretion, I don't see any problem with it. But admin may feel differently and they, of course, have the final say in the matter.

Aha! I always suspected you had magical powers! Perhaps it's time you changed your avatar to Merlin or Gandalf.

The only reason I can think of that our threads were locked/deleted was that they were in the Site Info section and it may not have been seen as site info. I think that argument may be a little week, but I can somewhat see their point. I would disagree that they needed to be locked/deleted though. If anything, they should have been moved to the proper forum.

Actually, I've been thinking about changing my avatar. Frank and I don't look quite so much alike these days since I had my hair all buzzed off. Now I look like my neck is blowing a bubble.
