I was thinking the same thing Jerry (OMG Jerry & I are thinking alike -- that's scary). OTOH, perhaps I'll become uber frugal and go to Antarctica and eat penguins!

Small town bordering bigger towns. 5 minutes to work each day, on a gulf-side highway. Mild climate. Half way between a fair size city (Mobile) one of the most interesting cities in America. Access to good healthcare. Low cost of living. Lots of activities and events year round. If we could just do something about those pesky hurricanes.

Experience of our friends in NYC {also one of the 10 worst) has been...they are over 65 and still working! As noted in the article, it's simply too expensive to live there/ high RE taxes/ high food costs/ etc, and not be bringing home a healthy paycheck. One is a NYT former editor and senior reporter, and the other is a senior architect (one that's lucky to still be working). One friend that DID retire a couple years ago just pulled up stakes and moved to.... Montevideo, Uruguay! Talk about cultural shock...

We are taking a quickie trip to the Big Apple this Sat/Sun/Mon and I'll find out what the architect's current thinking is. They absolutely all that is "NYC" so I doubt they'll be moving back to his hometown anytime soon = Fresno, CA

We'll probably stay here until I R. It's nice and quiet here in our suburb but convenient to most everywhere.

After R I would like to get to a warmer clime near the beach but we'll see.
It is beautiful there; I have enjoyed the GGG's and then later coming back for a visit.
