MB does not make it especially easy to service your own vehicle, in fact they make it as difficult as possible, so I always take Chris' car to the dealer. I think it takes 13 ltr of MB Mobile 1, but it only wants to be changed every 13,000 miles. They always have some fancy "FLEX" name for an oil change to justify the fee.

13 Liters is about 13.7 quarts. That must be the MB Unimog. My wifely unit's 7.3L Power Stroke diesel takes 15 quarts.

I change mine. Ramps make the job quick and easy. Of course now I have to back on. Driveway incline mostly makes up for ramp angle so the car is almost level. I like crawling underneith and looking around.

AJ changes his own oil in the Miata but I still keep an eye on the job as he has only done it a couple of times.

The beater goes to the local quick-lube. The filter is hard to get to and I don't really care all that much if they screw it up. Toyota V6s are rumored to run up to two years without oil in the crank case.

Sandy gets Rob to change hers. He's so good to his mom.

There is an oil drain plug on the ML320's CDI engine. However, it is time consuming to remove the bottom engine shield to get access to the oil plug drain and the splashing is always messy. So it is easier to suck the oil out the dip stick tube with a simple fluid extractor. The filter core replacement is also messy, and you need to add about 10 (or more, I have to look it up in the manual -- the dealer charges me for 13) qts of MB 229.51 specification oil.

MB requires Mobil 1 ESP Formula M 5W-40 oil, an advanced performance synthetic engine oil designed to maintain the efficiency of the emission reduction system in the turbo diesel. This is a special oil that MB says is not available for purchase by the public.

So I just take it to the dealer for oil changes -- or to Wolfgang down the street, who is a bit less heavy on the fees.

My guy's name is Wolfgang too. They mostly do restorations of muscle cars - I think I'm solely responsible for keeping the import part of the business in the black.
