Default Cats versus dogs..Which pet rules Christmas?

Some people like cats, some like dogs, some like both. I've owned both and loved them both. But which do you most associate with Christmas? Feel free to discuss other species or share a Christmas time story about a pet.

Cats and Christmas....Last year's prize (well no prize)winning entry for local paper Christmas Eve front page. They have also run the pic often in the last month or so as there is another contest. I think it's easier to dress up a dog for Christmas though.

Anyway, in our house, cats rule. Since 1998 we had one, and for a while two cats in our home. We only lasted a week without a cat after we lost the last one. In all honesty dogs are likely much better companions, though I've not had the desire to get one. Way more work than a cat.

That is one of my favorite pictures, Lainey.

Her name is Thelma, right?

Yes, it is Thelma. Right now she is stretched out on a blanket on Rick's lap. She runs the show!

We've had her for 5 years she's a little more than 6. She got a couple new mice (fake) to chase around.

We only had 1 dog, no cats. She was a toy poodle and lived for 17 years. Grew up with the kids and she got spoiled at Xmas. No pets now so we can go without worrying about them. Saw a bumper sticker that said "Retirement is the kids have left and the dog died".

We have always had animals. At one time 3 cats, 2 dogs, and a horse. Now we just have a dog and two horses. Did I say "just"! Anyways, I gave our current dog to my wife as a surprise Christmas present 12 years ago.

This golden always LOVED the snow and cold weather.

Even today, at 12 she was out off and on all day laying in the snow, burying her nose in the snow, and loving the 10° weather. Wish I had a picture. Thanks for reminding me I need to take one of her in the snow. I've got some great video of her playing in the snow over the years. Right now she's at my feet. Here's a photo from a couple days ago.

She is really starting to show her age and we pray this isn't her last Christmas as she is having problems walking for long distances, etc. I really need to take some good current pictures. You wonder where the time goes.

I love German Shepherds and have been the human mommy to Kyras, Whiskey, Vector and Rogue. They have all died. I don't care what day of the year it is, I can live without a dog but I can't live without a cat. Must have cats. I've had a lot more cats than dogs and currently have three; Crystal (female Himalayan mix, 18+ years-old), Zion (male Siamese 3+ years-old) and Talia (female Bengal, 3+ years-old).

^This is from March 1997. Kyras, my best-ever Sheppy, was 6 years-old, Zoro, my best-ever cat was 2 months old and my baby girl, Christa, was 10 years-old. Christa will be 30 on Feb. 6th, 2017.

^March 2005. Vector, Whiskey and Rogue. Rogue was the last sheppy I was the human mom to and he died in 2015.

^My current three cats, Zion, Crystal and Talia. My best-ever cat, Zoro, died three years ago at 16 1/2 years-old. I only had Crystal so I got Zion and Talia with 2 months to keep each other company. They get the zoomies and tear through the house. Talia has a cat wheel she runs on sometimes in the middle of the night. She's a great hunter.
