Default Cassic Convertibles for under $10K?

Some writer at CNN thinks you can get one of these classic convertibles for under $10K. I think that is probably true for the Miata. As for the other four, while I don't doubt you could buy one for under $10K, I'm not sure you would want what you bought. Your thoughts?

You talking about this article?

I agree with you. The true classics in good shape are probably a lot more than that. Plus maintenance. But I haven't really looked.

Thanks Deb. I fixed that. The best part of the article was the reference to Classic Cars .com

The beetle and Miata maybe. No way for the others. MGB in decent shape? Looks pristine to me and just look at the company it is in.

It's misleading. The picture shows a mint early 60s MGB but the article then goes on to say what's under $10k is much latter rubber-bumper MGBs, and specifically mentions a '73.

if you look hard enough you can find a functional TR6 for just under $10k, but it will need a complete rebuild.

Introducing myself, I'm in northern Illinois and had TRs many many years ago (one didn't even have rust yet!), am certainly vintage, and bought a nice unmolested 2006 S2000 about a year ago. Before I bought the S2000 I looked at a few TRs. I decided they had accumulated too much rust in the intervening 40 years.

I would say yes on the MGB and Miata no on the others. And like Dave stated you can get a nice rubber bumper MGB for 10k but for a really nice chrome bumper one you are looking at more than 10k.

I recently detailed a 73 rubber bumper MGB. The guy put 20K into a new engine, suspension, exhaust system, overdrive, and other stuff. Very nice, quick and had a nice sound. Detailing a Porsche Panamera, Boxster GTS and a Macan next. Im guessing 1/4 mil for all three. And, I get to pick up and bring back all three.

Hope the B wasn't for an investment.

Welcome spad. Having owned a Spitfire and Stag.... I think your S2000 was a wise choice.
