Default car care

I know this is a wash forum type question, but I'm asking here because I want the input of the vintage group.

I'm trying not to be too anal about taking care of my new s2k. I do want it to look good, but I'm not willing to invest the time to make it worthy of worship. (I'm too busy driving it)

What do some of you on the vintage thread use to wash, wax and maintain the interior. In good condition with reasonable effort.

I ordered the Classe products because of the ease of application and quality noted in the wash and wax forum.

Any suggestions or hints are appreciated.

Since I bought it in 2002 I've been washing it about every week or two. I wax it with Maguires Classic once a month. I find Maguires very easy to use and the finish is very satisfying.

I've been using 303 on the top with excellent results, and once every six months I use Maguires (I think) Leather Conditioner on the seats.

I vacuum every time I wash.

The real reason my car still looks new is that I refuse to take it out of the garage if it even looks like rain. I have another car that I use for my daily driver, and my S only comes out on nice days.

Where I'm anal is with the oil and filter. I change my oil and filter every 1,000 miles or 60 days whichever comes first. I've been using Mobil 1 since 7,500 miles, Castrol GTX before that. On my last change I used Amsoil, I want to see how I like it.

We bought our S in April of 2003. Shortly there after we had brunch with a long time "motorhead" friend that I have known for thirty years. I asked him what he was using for "wax or polish" these days. He replied that it was "funny that I should ask". He subscribes to an on-line magazine named Gurureports.com . They had just published their car wax shoot out. The hands down winner was Zaino Brothers polish.

Everything that you know about car wax goes out the window with their product. What made them a believer was that they gave up trying to wear it off after 78 car washes.

That 303 works on the top. Both the cleaner and the protectant.

We have an '01 Silverstone we bought, on 3-18-2001, and an '05 Suzuka, we bought on 11-6-2004. I've always been the washer/waxer/vacuumer for both cars. My husband is the oil changer, brake changer, trannie oil changer, etc.

I use what ever brand of car wash Costco is selling, Zymol for waxing, 303 Protectant on the soft tops, Maguires (?) on the leather seats. For the plastic window in the '01, I have two products I use. I always use Rainex on the windshield and side windows. I never put stuff on the tires.

For the paint, I've been using Menzerna products (polish and FMJ). I heartily agree with the recommendation of 303 for the top; I use it on the tires as well since I don't like them really shiney.

I use Liquid Glass polish on the paint, Lexol on the leather, and 303 on the vinyl. I have yet to find a tire dressing that I like. I also use Liquid Glass on the windows, mirrors, headlights, and tail lights.

Klasse is a great wax. Used it all the time on my S. Have now switched to Zaino. Seems to give a better shine.

This season I'm using 303 on top with Zymol Concours Estate on body.
