Give me tropical heat, or give me death.

Heat any day of the week (notice where I live). If the temperature drops below 60, I get out the down jacket (I still have one from living in CA), turtlenecks, and gloves.

. i asked this same thing to the co-workers and the majority said they would rather work in the cold. i also found that these same people were the ones who are early risers. our rational is you can dress for the cold but there is only so much you can take off for the heat. nobody wanted to show off a plumbers crack.
i have experienced the extreme cold- 35 for 50 plus years. i can take the snow not the cold anymore. i couldn't take the extreme heat you are suggesting. still searching for where i am going to hang up my hat when i have had enough of working.

I can't give a legitimate reply since I've never experienced severe cold. I do HATE hot summers though. Where I live we ususally have many days of over 100* in the summer (somewhere around 20, I guess). I could take the heat if it would cool off to the 60*s at night but I get so tired of being hot all the time. You guys know how to dress for the cold. I've learned that when we have a hot summer, the only relief is a shirt that can be taken off, soaked in the sink, wrung out and put back on, over and over. Our electric bill has been over $500 for one month in the summer and that's not set low.

Patty, how often do you have to replace your A/C unit?

i pay about $170.00 per month for natural gas to heat in the winter that includes a detached garage. $500.00
i use to enjoy the distinct seasons when i was a kid, hate the wind. it seems to me though the weather has changed over the years. i remember the seasons were at a certain time and you knew what season it was. i still enjoy down hill skiing,water skiing,warm summer nights,fall scenery and the delight spring brings.
i wasn't aware of or cared to much about global weather but now it is all wonkie. we just had rain in january for two days and now it is back to minus 20 for awhile. talk about slipping and sliding. the west coast is flooding the east coast has extreme cold. tsunami waves,hurricanes,tornado's,drought.
still searching for a place that has a moderate temp, has the amenities yet not to large and affordable. maybe we all have gotten used to what we grew up with just can't take the extremes any more.

cold (if properly attired) = brisk and invigorating
heat = unbearable and enervating

Give me heat any day. This is based upon living in Chichago for 8 years, Minneapolis for 4 years, and Dallas for 12,
Life does not get better than a 100 degree day sitting shoulder deep in your pool holding a icy adult beverage!
In addition I can drive my S year round and keep the top down 10 months of the year.

I'll take the cold. I prefer Boston to DC, where I lived for ten years.

The perpetual spring time of San Francisco/Marin has a lot to recommend it, though.
