California to Virginia. Some Photos.
I drove for 14 days from Acton, California (about 45 minutes north-east of Los Angeles) to Wintergreen, Virginia and back, to be able to drive my '05 Suzuka baby at the Vintage Spring Fling on May 4th ,5th and 6th. I put 6,136 miles on my the car. These are some of my photos. I'll go in chronological order, usually, except for this first post. If the photos were taken at the meet, I'll put them in the Wintergreen Spring Fling Thread instead of here.
These were all taken on Tuesday, May 1st, my 3rd day on the road. I drove from Acton to Albuquerque, New Mexico on Sunday, April 29th, Day 1, covering 776 miles. On Monday, April 30th, Day 2, I drove from Albuquerque to Rockwall, Texas, covering 676 miles. Ruth Josey (rjosey8385) lives in Rockwall. We became friends on S2ki.com a couple years ago but never met. She offered me a guest room and dinner if I could come by so I changed my route to include visiting her. Ruth is a sweetheart and we were both happy to finally meet.

^Ruth and I were both posting on S2ki on Tuesday morning. She folded her long limbs to use her laptop while I took over her PC in the next room.
^Ruth's dolphin.
^Ruth's fine Berlina. She's a very fast auto-cross driver. I do believe she's the fastest right now. Did I get that right, Ruth?
^Both of our S2000s. It rained at night.
^A couple years ago, Ruth posted some fun photos of herself in some crazy boots. They weren't around but she did have these out.
^This was later in the day, on my way to meet Jim (S1997) in Meridian, Mississippi. I got written up for 81 mph in a 70 mph zone. The trooper was standing in the center divider behind trees and I looked over and saw him as I drove by. I knew I was nailed as I saw him look down at his speed detector device and start walking to his car. I just drove on, keeping my eyes open for him to come get me.

Here are a few photos from Sunday, April 29th, my first day on the road. I drove 776 miles in 11 hours and 20 minutes this day, leaving Acton, California at 5:52 a.m. and arriving at Albuquerque, New Mexico at 5:12 p.m. (Cali time). Nothing special here but I thought you easterners might be interested in the terrain.
^ My first pee stop in ugly Adelanto, California, just 54 miles from home. Coffee runs through one early in the morning. Might as well gas up. Such a deal. Only $3.48 a gallon.
^ My first rest stop just past Barstow, California. ^This one and all of the following photos in this post were taken on Interstate 40.
^ I always get a kick out of this drinking faucet at the rest stop. It's been that way for years.
^ One state down (California). Entering Arizona after crossing the Colorado River. I got gas in Williams, Arizona and paid $3.70 a gallon for it! I'm glad I only got 4.3 gallons.
^ Two states down. Entering New Mexico.
^A rest stop in New Mexico.
^ Scenery out the car window in New Mexico.

Here are a few more unexciting photos from Day 3, Tuesday, May 1st. I drove 506 miles in 9 hours and 43 minutes. I left Ruth's house, in Rockwall, Texas at 11:15 a.m. to drive to Meridian, Mississippi, where I was to met up with Jim (S1997). I got to the Best Western there at 8:58 p.m. Kinda late driving today, but I didn't want to rush off after finally getting to meet Ruth. Jim and I went to a nearby Waffle House and I pigged out on a waffle, bacon, eggs, and grits. Great grits! Jim said he wasn't hungry but he pigged out too.
^ A Welcome Center in Lousiana. I went to the bathroom and signed in on their visitor register, just below someone from San Diego, California. I also got a free cup of coffee.
^This is what I-20 looked like.
^ Here's my Garmin 2720 39 minutes before I was pulled over and got the ticket for 81 in a 70 mph zone. It's telling me I have 187 miles to go before my next turn, that I'm doing 77 mph and that my arrival time at my destination is 7:45 p.m.
